Security Enhancements for ‘Most Stolen’ Truck - Cadillac Escalade

The Cadillac Escalade has been a recipient of various awards over the years. But one honor bestowed on the vehicle in 2011 was not so complimentary, it was the most stolen truck in America. Parent company General Motors plans on stopping this.

The auto maker, who supplies the latest trim levels of Escalades, along with other Cadillac vehicles to Motor Werks Cadillac of Barrington in Barrington, IL, will be 'beefing up' security throughout Escalade models.

"The goal is to make the Escalade a very difficult target for thieves without any added inconvenience for customers," said Bill Biondo, General Motors' leader for vehicle theft prevention. "The new systems work in the background and few people realize they are there."1

Here's a breakdown of what security features to expect onboard an all new Escalade:

Sophisticated encryption system for keys, dubbed Pass Key 3+ to thwart theft.

Tougher steering column lock system, GM adds is "nearly impossible" to steal an Escalade via flatbed truck.

'Inclination sensor' sets off an alarm when is senses a change of the vehicle's angle, again if the Escalade is being dragged onto a flatbed truck.

A 'shock sensor' to reduce theft by sounding the alarm when window glass being smashed. Stronger wheel locks will also be included.
